The 6 Essential Practices for Lightworkers

Do you remember the first time you realized you might be a lightworker? Was it a few years ago, in your childhood or are you just now beginning to wonder if this title is talking about you?

Knowing Your Lightworker Design

As a child, I always felt that something was very different about me and the way I viewed the world. Then as a teen and young adult, I thought there was something very wrong with me because of the way I could seem to feel other people's emotions more strongly than others could. It wasn’t until I was in my early 30s that I even heard the word “empath” so I had no word for what I was experiencing.

Once I learned that word, I let out a huge sigh of relief knowing there was an actual word to describe what I was experiencing. That only led to me learning other words that finally gave the answers I was searching for to explain many of my (and my family’s) experiences while I was growing up. Words like intuitive, empath, and energy healer left me wide-eyed as I would shout, “A-ha! That’s what you call it!”

Discovering Purpose in the Pain

I always knew I had an overwhelming desire to help others and that fit well with the Christian religion I was born into, but the other variables did not fit in so well with my Christian circles. The intuitive abilities, empathic tendencies, and my natural inclination to be an open-minded spiritual explorer did not fit in with my religious communities. That created quite a dissonance for me as I realized I was not living in alignment with my values, interests, abilities and desires. I realized along the way that this caused me to abandon myself and not live in full authenticity.

Once I learned to fully love and accept myself as I was, I was able to detox my belief system, disengage from the toxic mindsets and create harmony in my life by making choices that were fully aligned with my unique sparkle and spiritual nature. It was a challenging experience, but I finally realized that everything was coming together beautifully piece-by-piece, or string-by-string like a tapestry, to show me why I am here on this planet and the abilities I have been given in order to do my job. That job?

Lightworker. Coach. Energy Healer. If you’re here reading this, chances are high that you are a lightworker or empath, too. That simply means that you have value and a purpose to fulfill. You've got a special role to play and you may help others JUST by being YOU - the healthiest, happiest and most healed version of you. It can really be that simple. Although, it could also mean that one day you may do something in the helping field as a profession.

Your Unique Sparkle

I know it can be overwhelming to realize that you are a lightworker and meant to use your gifts for good things in this world. I remember thinking, “This sounds exactly like me, but what does that even mean? Do I need to go to school for this sort of thing? Is it just who I am? What am I supposed to do with this knowledge?”

What is your unique sparkle?

As I began to learn more, I realized that I could just chill out, relax and take a deep breath (in fact, most lightworkers highly recommend it, LOL). Realizing and admitting that I was a lightworker was the first step. Next, I needed to learn what that would look like for me. There are many different types of lightworkers who express themselves in a variety of ways with a wide range of gifts and interests. An important key in the life of a lightworker is to know your own unique values, gifts, abilities and interests that all come together to create your unique sparkle. Then you get to decide how your unique sparkle will be used to bring light to this world.

Here They Are: The 6 Essential Practices

Even in all of our differences and diversity, there are six important things I think every lightworker should know and do in order to continue creating that harmony and growth as they begin making their positive difference.

1. G.S.C.P. - Ground, Shield, Connect, Protect

The first thing I recommend to both new and experienced lightworkers alike is to develop a regular routine I like to call G.S.C.P. which stands for “Ground, Shield, Connect and Protect.” Whether you are an empath or not, being a lightworker makes you susceptible to the energy and experiences of others, especially if you are actively sharing your light with others. You will need to learn how to ground and center yourself in order to make decisions that are fully yours and not allow your thoughts, emotions, words and energy to be manipulated and hijacked.

By having a routine in place that is quick and easy to do, you will always have a method of getting back on track when you notice your energy is off. It can be as easy as a 5 minute grounding meditation that you follow on YouTube or walking barefoot on the grass (weather permitting, of course), focusing your attention and intention on connecting with Divine Source (or whatever term you use for a higher power, God, the universe, your spiritual support team, angels & guides, etc.) and asking for protection from the outside energies that may not be beneficial or in alignment with your energy.

I enjoy doing my G.S.C.P. outside in nature.

I like to visualize a protective bubble around me as I am surrounded by my spiritual support team. The point is to find a routine that you can do to quickly rebalance yourself. They key to making this work well for you is staying in tune with your own energy and having the awareness to know when you have just been affected by someone or something else's energy.

2. Chakra Energetic Healing

Gaining a little bit of knowledge about your chakras (the different areas or "energy centers" of your life) and how to energetically support them will be of great benefit to you as you begin or continue your work as a lightworker and will certainly help you to invest in yourself and your own self-healing practice. This will ensure that you are functioning at a higher vibration and maintaining a good flow of energy in each of your chakras, which will help you to fully use your abilities and shine your light from a place of healing and awareness in all areas of your life.

When you see evidence of a chakra that is blocked or that has been negatively impacted (like fear, resistance, low vibration emotions, an inability to say no or speak your truth, feeling difficulty with creativity and relationships, etc.), you will know exactly what to do to begin clearing that energy through a variety tools like meditation, sound healing, crystals, nutrition, color therapy, and of course clearing any trapped emotions through an energy healing session with the Emotion Code alternative healing modality or any other modality you prefer. There are many options to choose from and everyone must find what works for them.

A gratitude journal is a great ritual for creating positive shifts and raising your vibration.

3. Ritual Establishment

I am a firm believer in rituals, especially for those who crave a little more sacred space in a world that can be pretty chaotic at times. The stress, anxiety, and hurried nature of life can cause us to lose a great deal of our mindfulness. It is that slower-paced focus and mindfulness that has the ability to create a state of peace and reverence that can really heal and soothe a weary soul. It also has the ability to connect you straight to your source of creativity and flow where many lightworkers do their best work, myself included.

This can be as simple as creating a ritual where you read your affirmations as you brush your teeth every morning and every night, writing your intentions on a piece of paper and placing it under your water bottle, doing a weekly check in with your gratitude and making a gratitude list or it can be a more extensive ritual that you do every other week or monthly to release negative emotions and energy, smudging your home and journaling about what you are releasing over a cup of hot tea. Whether it is a simple daily ritual or a more extensive ritual you do periodically, these rituals create positive movement and momentum in a high vibe direction. It's a great way to give practical application to spiritual wellness.

4. Regular Team Meetings

Having regular check in sessions with your spiritual support team (God, the universe or whatever term you use) is a great idea. This practice can help you to remember that you are seen, loved, guided and supported by a huge team of supportive fans that will always have your back and are always willing to help when you ask.

You can check in to see what you need to know for your best and highest good, what your next step should be, or what you are meant to learn from your current challenges (and you will have them) or circumstances.

I enjoy using Oracle Cards for myself to seek wisdom, understanding and practice intuitive development. I also enjoy connecting through meditation, prayer, singing, intuitive writing and mindful nature walks. Find what you enjoy and have your own way of touching base regularly as a way of staying connected and supported along the way.

5. Skill Development

It is important to do a skills inventory to get a full picture of the abilities and lightworker skills you already possess. Do you feel that you have underdeveloped spiritual gifts? Are you an empath? Are you a coach, healer, nurse, therapist or energy healer? Do you just enjoy being nice, spreading love and joy and helping people experience higher vibrations through encouragement in whatever you do?

You do not have to have a skill mastered in order to list it on your skills inventory. Even if you can just do something “a little bit,” it still counts as a skill you have, but it may fall under the category of a skill you have that needs to be further developed. Then you will have another category of skills that you have an interest in, but you don’t feel like you have obtained this skill quite yet. These would be skills that fall under the “To Be Developed” category.

So in the end you will know what skills you currently have, what skills you need to develop more and what skills you wish to acquire eventually. This will help you to develop a plan for learning, developing and using those skills. Whether you need some online classes, a support group, a practice buddy or a coach, having this list will better direct your priorities in skill development so that you can gain the knowledge and confidence needed to work your lightworker magic and live with purpose.

6. Community Support

A group of like-minded lightworkers to support you, motivate you and encourage you on your journey is an invaluable resource. A group like this will also be a great place to engage with others of common interests and learn from their experience (and to share yours). To have a place where you can be connected and fully let your light shine while you also grow and develop your skills is so inspiring and motivating.

Are you connected to a lightworker group?

Flying solo is not a great way to experience success as a lightworker. We are stronger when we are connected, which is why I take part in online groups and communities. This is something I wish I had learned as a teen and even in my 20s and early 30s - the importance of having a place where I could fully be myself and not have to hide (something I struggled with in my Christian upbringing).

The groups I am now a part of have made all the difference for me and have helped me to realize I am not alone. There are many others just like me who want to make a positive difference in this world and are taking action to do so. It’s so much better when we can do it together.

Foundation for Personal & Spiritual Development

With these six essential practices in place, you will be setting up a firm foundation for your personal and spiritual growth and development as a lightworker. Your role here on this planet is so vital and your sparkle is meant to grow and be shared. We need you to do your thing!
